Over the past three years, major energy companies have made few new investments in oil and natural gas production because of low global oil prices. However, the Caspian region has been an exception. Major new investments there, alongside the continued development of existing resources, will allow the Caspian basin to maintain and even boost current oil and gas production. The new projects will also enable an expansion of the gas trade with Europe and China, as well as within the Caspian region itself.
